Frequently Asked Questions

Here you will find answers to many of the questions I'm frequently asked about massage therapy and yoga. If however, there's something you would like to know that's not included here, then please feel free to ask!

What will happen when I first visit the clinic?

A full health history will be taken including your general health, any symptoms and injuries. We will discuss what brings you to treatment, what you’re looking for and what you would like to achieve from your treatment time. I ask if you have a pressure preference or indeed, have any other likes and dislikes about massage therapy so that you may gain maximum benefit and enjoyment from your treatment. I may conduct a few simple assessments (such as range of motion) as highlighted by any presenting condition. All this helps us to target the root of any problem rather than just address the symptoms. I will ensure that you are happy with everything before we proceed. Please feel free to ask any questions about your treatment at any time.

What should I wear for a massage treatment?

Simply dress down to your own comfort level (usually underwear for a full body treatment). I will give you privacy to undress and redress. Only remove clothing that you are comfortable with removing. During a session, you will be fully covered with a towel at all times except for the area that is being worked on.

How often should I have massage therapy?

For some people one treatment may well be enough to achieve their therapeutic goals. However, massage therapy is most beneficial in acute conditions when used over a series of treatments and then followed up with maintenance or preventive treatments. The benefits of massage therapy are cumulative though of course, we all have time restraints and a budget and any subsequent treatments are entirely your choice. I have people that come for treatment in all sorts of time scales. As a general rule of thumb, once a month is beneficial to ease general muscular strain, relieve stress, enhance wellbeing and give yourself a welcome, indulgently relaxing treat.

I’m not sure which therapy is best for me. How should I choose?

Fear not- this is something we can discuss together! It often helps to clarify a little what you are hoping to gain from the treatment and we can take it from there. Very often I find that people most benefit from a combination of therapies and techniques and I readily aim to strike the perfect balance for you on any given day!

Do you offer evening and Saturday appointments?

Yes, I offer evening appointments and ones on Saturday. Evening clinic and Saturday appointments have a tendency to be most in demand, so be sure to book in advance where possible. Just call or email me for an appointment and I will do my very best to accommodate your needs.

Why do you have a late cancellation (missed appointment) fee?

It is clinic policy that we charge for all missed appointments or those that are cancelled or re- arranged with less than 24 hours’ notice. We are a very busy clinic and usually have someone to fill a spot if we have enough time to do so. I am more than happy to send a text reminder and very rarely need to put our policy into practice- people usually greatly look forward to receiving a treatment and certainly don’t want to miss it!

Are your yoga classes suitable for beginners?

As long as you are in good general health and your joints move fairly freely with no significant restrictions, then you should be fine- everything else just develops over time.

FAQs. yogaclassk

I’m not very flexible- would yoga be right for me?

Yes! The important thing is having a flexible mind, being patient with yourself and your body and enjoying the journey. I always emphasise that we aren’t trying to ‘get’ anywhere other than where we are. As long as your stretch sensation is safe and feels good to YOU then that really is the essence of yoga in practice.

FAQs. meditationclass

Are there any age restrictions?

The minimum age I invite to class is 17 accompanied by a parent or suitable adult. There is no maximum age as general health considerations are more key. Classes currently range from 17 to late 70s and consist of both men and women.

Do I need to invest in a yoga mat straight away?

No, you may borrow a spare mat initially until you're sure that yoga is for you. I then advise people to invest in their own mat as it's just nicer to have your own personal space to practice. After a little yoga experience, you may then have a better idea of your needs when buying a mat in terms of thickness and length (also, you are not then left with equipment on your hands that you have no further use for).

Would yoga be a good addition to my fitness training?

Yoga is an effective tool to help the active, athletic and sporty, benefit from a complementary type of physical exercise, breath control and flexibility, as well as mental focus. Yoga helps many types of athletes gain knowledge about the mind and body connection, improving body awareness and enhancing mental clarity. Integrating yoga into any type of gym or athletic training helps many people lessen their risk of injury and recovery time by gaining strength and flexibility without straining muscles.
