Aromatherapy

Pure essential oils derived from plants, flowers, trees, fruits, barks, seeds and grasses that have medicinal benefits are used to optimise health and help treat a wide variety of conditions. The oils are absorbed into the blood stream via the skin whilst also being inhaled through the nose during your aromatherapy massage treatment.

Nature's Remedies

Remember the heady fragrance of an herb or flower garden on a hot summer's day, or the crisp smell of an orange as you peel it? These gorgeous scents are the fragrance of the plant's essential oils, the potent, volatile and aromatic substance contained in various parts of the plant, including its flowers, leaves, roots, wood, seeds, fruit, and bark. The essential oils carry concentrations of the plant's healing properties which are those same properties that traditional Western medicine often utilises in many conventional drugs and medicines. Aromatherapy may be likened to you receiving a kindly helping hand from nature to enjoy greater physical, mental and emotional health and wellbeing.

Your Aromatherapy Treatment

A bespoke blend of essential oils is chosen to meet your individual requirements for a thoroughly sumptuous treatment experience. I will ask you if you have any particular aromatic preferences or if there's any oil that you would rather I didn't use in your personal blend as it's important that you're happy with my selection for you. There are though a huge range of essential oils that we may select from together that affect many of the body’s systems and encourage natural healing. Rest assured you'll be well looked after and cared for!

An aromatherapy massage treatment may be more for relaxation, to aid stress relief, help energise and revive flagging energy, or it may help target a specific ailment or its symptoms depending entirely upon your requirements.

Therapeutic Uses of Essential Oils

A wide range of physical, mental and emotional conditions may be helped with aromatherapy. Almost all essential oils have antiseptic properties and are able to fight infection and destroy bacteria, fungi, yeast, parasites, and/ or viruses. Many essential oils also help reduce aches and pain, soothe or rout inflammations and spasms, stimulate the immune system and insulin and hormone production, affect blood circulation, help dissolve mucus and open nasal passages as well as aiding digestion.

Aromatherapy is actually an aspect of a larger category of healing treatment known as herbal medicine. Herbal medicine also utilises the healing powers of plants to treat physical and emotional conditions, but it uses the whole plant or parts of the plant, such as leaves, flowers, roots, and seeds, rather than the essential oils themselves.

Each essential oil has a unique scent as well as constituents that may help treat many different conditions. Indeed, the therapeutic properties of essential oils are so varied and diverse. Some oils are versatile, while others are known to work on specific systems. Some are gentle, while others are strong. Some work on the muscles, while others work on the mind.

Essential oils do not actually feel oily. They are called "oils" because they contain the oil soluble chemicals in the plant (usually 100 to 200 chemicals per essential oil). This complex chemistry gives essential oils their therapeutic properties and explains why different essential oils may have overlapping effects.

Herbal Benefits, Uses and Considerations

Aromatherapy can be a very valuable healing tool for many people. Please be aware though that there are medical conditions that require much more extensive therapy than offered by aromatic chemicals, (ie. diabetes, chronic kidney disease and multiple sclerosis). However, aromatherapy may help relieve many of the symptoms frequently associated with the above disorders, such as the circulation problems that often occur with diabetes and the water retention often resulting from kidney disease.

Aromatherapy is also an excellent way to help deal with stress related to managing a long standing health condition. Stress itself often compromises physical and emotional wellbeing and even triggers many seemingly unrelated disorders, so some blissful, healing treatment may go a long way towards keeping its affects at bay.
